Senate Bill No. 294
CHAPTER 667
Under SB 294, California employers must provide a standalone "Know Your Rights" notice to all employees by Feb 1, 2026 (and annually/at hire). It covers workers' comp, immigration rights, unionizing, and 4th/5th Amendment rights. By March 30, 2026, you must let employees name an emergency contact for workplace arrests. Records of distribution must be kept for 3 years. Violations carry a $500 fine per employee, while emergency contact failures can reach $10,000 per worker. Retaliation is strictly prohibited. Use the Labor Commissioner’s template for compliance.
